Applying Q-Shield™ thermal insulators to components in the engine compartment results in reduced fuel consumption Q-Shield™ technology comprises multi-layered composite thermal insulators which are applied to the air intake system thereby maintaining the temperature of the air at near ambient level. This allows the intake air to reach the combustion chamber at a lower temperature than it otherwise would. The cooler denser air introduced into the combustion chamber creates greater combustion which generates increased engine power and efficiency and reduces fuel consumption. Q-Shield™ thermal insulators consist of a proprietary multi-layer composite of materials ranging from .375” in thickness and larger depending on application. They are wrapped around the air intake system and are secured with removable straps. Q-Shield™ technology uses light weight materials that do not significantly affect engine weight. Q-Shield™ thermal insulators are custom designed for specific engine configurations. Q-Shield™ Technology improves the effectiveness of the the intercooler. Intercoolers have been used in conjunction with diesel engines for many years. The purpose of this intercooler is to cool the air in the air intake system which enhances the performance of the engine. Intercoolers produce denser air prior to entry into the combustion chamber. The denser the air the greater the supply of oxygen resulting in more complete combustion and reduced fuel consumption. While this process has been successful for many years, increases in heat in the engine compartment in the last decade as a result of increased engine complexity and government regulation has reduced the effectiveness of the intercooler. Q-Shield™ technology is applied to the entire air intake system along with the intercooler allowing the intercooler to work more effectively. By improving the performance of the intercooler Q-Shield™ technology reduces fuel consumption. To further insure that the air delivered to the combustion chamber from the air intake system is as close to ambient as possible, Q-Shield™ thermal insulators are also applied to heat producing components such as the turbocharger and the exhaust manifold. Also a thermal shield is applied to one side of the compressor to shield it from the heat emanating from the turbocharger. Expected Improvement in fuel consumption using Q-Shield™ technology There are a variety of factors which influence fuel consumption. For off-road equipment this may include the type of work performed, size of equipment, and engine configuration. For on-road equipment factors such as driver competence, long haul vs short haul, traffic conditions and engine configuration will have an effect not only on fuel consumption, but on overall performance. Therefore, fuel consumption improvements are expressed as a range rather than an absolute number. For on-road equipment it is expressed as Miles per Gallon (MPG) and for off-road equipment it is expressed as Gallons per Hour (GPH). |
